'The Analogue Sessions' is the sort of compilation album you don't get from every artist. Rather than simply shoving together a dozen of his most popular songs from his solid back catalogue, Shawn has made the most of some of the hard-to-come-by antique studio technology and rerecorded nine of his fan favourites together with two new songs. As you'd expect, the rare and valuable equipment has clearly been handled with great care, and regrettably that's where the album lets itself down; many of the songs have had the edge taken off in the process, almost starved of energy and excitement in case anything happens to the tech. Of course it's still very difficult to ruin great songs, but the two bonus tracks ("radio versions" of the new tunes - "What Are You Waiting For" and "Through It All") for me are the highlight, particularly the former, which don't suffer the same problem.
