Anyone who has grooved to Sherwin's riotously infectious "He Died For Me" and "I Stand" from his previous 'Closer' album on Cross Rhythms radio will know that Trinidad and Tobago's Sherwin Gardner is that most rare of figures on the reggae and soca scenes - a singer/record producer whose music is "roots" enough to hold an indigenous audience yet craftily hook-laden enough to catch the ear of a pop audience. This 18-track barnstormer is full of good things: "Under My Feet" blends a heavy rock guitar riff, some choice interjections from compatriot Jadee and a delicious soca groove while "Clearance" is roots reggae at its finest with a contribution from Isaac Blackman (of Blackman Family fame). Then if you're into dancehall, there are some tasty riddims on "Pray" and the infectious club-banger "Trendsetters" (the latter with guests Bernardo and Christlike). My favourite cut is "Do You Know" which artfully locks a bumping R&B beat to Sherwin's creamy falsetto vocals. UB1 Music have released an absolute winner with this set.
