I suppose it would be fair to say that Switchfoot are the current Christian supergroup for the CCM scene and it was only a matter of time before a 'Best Of' album was released. Actually to be fair this isn't a typical greatest hits album at all. It is what the band themselves feel to be their best and most influential songs to date. I would recommend that you buy the Deluxe Edition as this comes with a great DVD that contains many of the band's skilfully produced and extremely entertaining promotional videos and has chat from the band themselves as to why the songs on the 'Best Yet' album mean so much to them and why they wrote them. Standout tracks for me are "Meant To Live", "Oh Gravity" and especially "Star", which showcase the band's harder, rockier edge. "Company Car" has a fun pop/rock edge to it that has you tapping the steering wheel or whatever you have to hand. "Only Hope" shows us that Switchfoot have a heart and a gentle side, which they give us with great effect. As somebody who came to Switchfoot late I found this an invaluable introduction to 12 years of one of America's finest. This album really does show us that Christian music can not only be as good as anything secular but can also lead the way. The videos that come with the Deluxe Edition are as good anything that you'll see on MTV or other music channels. Switchfoot prove with this 'Best Yet' album that as the name suggests they are going to be a force to be reckoned with for quite some time yet.
