Chicago is the home to a multitude of great gospel singers so it's no surprise to hear that Tecora Rogers hails from that famous city. Jingle singer and gospel musician, she's released this 10 track album through an independent label and although it's true that she has a fine voice, one of the major problems with this album is that the musical ideas don't really match up to the strength of her singing. I can imagine that as a live draw, she is amazing, moving the brothers and sisters at church with her solos but translating that to this studio album clearly hasn't happened. Everything is tuneful, her voice lovely, the playing proficient but not very original and the arrangements bland. Production budget is challenged so there are some cheap sounds here and there though I enjoyed some of the original songs especially the jazzier "Light Of The World" and the more upbeat "Get On Up". However I don't think the world really needs another version of "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" or "Amazing Grace".
