Canadian five piece The Dustkickers serve up a unique blend of rock'n'roll built around acoustic grooves and loads of great harmonies. What's more, the band are seriously committed to full time ministry in their homeland and this album contains songs that are designed to communicate powerfully in a live setting. Consequently Twenty Three has a strong organic "live" feel and a warm sound that is immediately attractive. Standouts for me are "Marianas Valley" with its "When love breaks down" chorus and wonderful flute. "Loving You" is a beautiful melody and heartfelt vocal to God; the opener "Come As You Are" is probably the most rocky of the set and really rocks along. But most lovely of all is the title cut which is a modern version of the 23rd Psalm. Peaceful, beautiful and highlighting The Dustkickers' powerful vocal harmonies. Great stuff!

I got this CD around 1996 or so and have loved since. love the vocals and the acoustic flair. i love all kinds of music but have leaned towards heavy rock but alwas come back to 23 for some grounding. i would love to get more from this band. What has happen to such a soulful group? the lyrics that were written are so insightful and timeless

Love the album - my teenage daughter 'borrowed' it from my collection. It was returned well listened to. Would like to get another copy - anyone know how?

Hi Stephanie,
I saw your comments on Cross Rhythms. I'm glad you and your daughter enjoyed the album. I will try to rip the copy I have and send/email it off to you. As well I'll see if Ken has any copies left in his basement and perhaps he can mail one out to you.
Email me your email and postal address to mfhurlburt@hotmail.com. Ken Michell is on Facebook and Myspace as well.

Again thank you for your kind words and interest (especially after all these years).
Peace, Joy
Mark
