One of the best words to sum up the music of Minnesota-abased The Get-Rites is retrospective. Not for them the contemporisation of earlier American folk, blues and country styles. The Get-Rites set out to create the feel and sound of decades past rural America and in doing so bear and have little resemblance of any modern genre of popular music. Tying in with this glance into the past, a number of the songs give an impression of using the music to exorcise some inner demons as a way of cleansing and putting away the past. At this point the retrospective meets the forward looking in songs such as "God Is Not Dead". The idea and imagery of three men, one with a guitar, one with a double bass and one with a cymbal and snare drum, shouts of the archaic, but rest assured this album is more relevant today than many others, and fantastically compelling listening for anyone.
