The Rumour are a five-piece rock outfit from Walsall and this debut was released last year. The opening track "Waiting" features some very nice guitar work, but I wasn't so sure about the vocals. Maybe they're just too high in the mix? There's some Elvis Costello-esque keyboards on "Special Kind Of Love", but the vocals really don't cut it here either, sounding a bit too much "youth group band". The overall sound is, to my ears, a bit '80s rock but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There are a couple of slower numbers here, but it's the faster stuff that works best apart from "My Place" which builds into a superb climax and would probably have been a better CD closer than "Something More" which is probably a good gig closer). Overall, I thought The Rumour's musicianship was tight and the songs were well constructed (with some nice chantable choruses). It was just the vocals that needed to be worked on. I bet they're cracking live, though.

Thanks for the review and the comments, we are currently working hard on our second album and learning from the experience of the first album. As a band we are all aware that we haven't discovered our studio sound yet and are much better live. We hope our second album will reflect the same experience as seeing us live.

i would totally disagree with the person who wrote the review for the debut Rumour album. I am unsure what type of 'youth group band' they have heard recently, but i for one think that they are much more well tuned than you make out!
As a debut Album I think that your negativness about the cd is poor. I feel that you have 'slated' the vocalist and have limited your positiveness!! These guys are playing from their heart. They are passionate about using music to be examples of fun, funky, trendy Christian blokes instead of conforming to the norm of the majority of up and coming Christian bands out there!!
I suggest that you book a ticket to Soul Survivor North where you will get to hear the Rumour live throughout the course of the week... each night.
Thanks

I saw the rumour at new wine, they were amazing live, so much energy and life. They do a great mix of thier own music with Rock covers. I agree about the eighties rock thing, They Finished the show with Jump by Van Halen!
