Certainly the title is a little bit of a hype but it's true that there are some classic "superhits" contained here- "Amazing Grace", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "Were You There?", "The Old Rugged Cross", etc, etc. Yessiree Bob! There's gold in them thar hills, the only problem is that some of these nuggets feel like fools gold to me. Just a quibble, but who are these well known Christian singers? Tammy Wynette, Charlie Rich, Patsy Cline, George Jones? I suppose you could call it a bit of a character flaw but I have a few problems with well known entertainers taking some of the Church's finest tunes and doing their sentimental versions of them. However, if that kind of thing appeals to you, you might enjoy someone like Patsy crooning "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and almost sounding like she means it! If you pan the dregs here, there is a genuine gem; Ricky Van Shelton's "The Old Rugged Cross", is pretty impressive. The rest feels too much like showbiz gospel for me.
