The latest signing to Michael W Smith's burgeoning roster are a husband and wife, Nathan and Christy Nockels, aka Watermark, and a talented pair they are too. They have songwriting credits on all 11 songs on this one, Nathan provides keyboards in a band containing some well-known names on the Nashville session scene, and Christy warbles her way through the material with all the aplomb of a veteran. One of the attractions for me is that nearly every song is addressed directly to God in a straightforward no-nonsense fashion, so you don't have to be a rocket scientist to tell where these guys come from. Stylistically Watermark owes much to established duos such as Out Of The Grey, but comparisons are unproductive, because this is more praise and worship orientated, something that Scott and Christine haven't done since Charlie Peacock's "Coram Deo" projects in 1992/3. I've got a feeling that we might be hearing more of Mr and Mrs Nockels.
