Determined to keep the spotlight on their Maker, @nonymous describe themselves only as “four worshiping hearts from different churches, backgrounds and streams” in their nameless website biog. The desire of Jesse and Justin Converse, Josh Reginelli and Brent Holland to fly in the face of Christian celebrity culture could by viewed as a gimmick if it wasn’t for the passion poured into these songs. The crisp production of their electro-influenced rock is surprisingly good for an outfit who are seemingly label-less. Easy reference points, as with most “nu-worship” acts, are U2 and Delirious?. Opening tracks “Accelerate” and “Make You Famous” buzz with ‘Zooropa’-esque effects, though ”Burn The Cycle” and “It’s Time” mine from the current rock scene in their native US. This is one of far-to-few worship albums that are not let down by re-heated riffs or done-to-death clichés. More importantly, it captures the renewed expectation currently rising in the Church in songs like “Double Portion” (“Mantles transferred from the Father’s open hands/The ceiling now becomes the floor on which we stand”). Back to the biog, @nonymous conclude: “We’re concerned with the things that will last, which I don’t think is going to include a name that we could make for ourselves.”
