Just to say that we prayed for you chaps in BECU down here in London and praise God for providing such an opportunity to witness and stand up for our Saviour in Birmingham Uni. We will continue praying for a solution to the problem. Romans 8:28

Hey jus thought that as a current member of BECU, I would post my comments up. First of all thanx for all your prayers etc they have are really appreciated. Just cos we have been banned does not mean that we no longer meet, whatever the guild pass there will continue to be a christian group, official or not, operating within the uni. I remain hopefull however that a compromise will be agreed and this wont turn into a long stand off between the two organisations.

I heard about this a week ago in our CU meeting. We have been praying that the situation be resolved, but are there any other things that people can do to help. We are also under the students union banner but do have a sort of committee election by people in the CU, which is then worked through by the present committee, and objections can then be made before the AGM,which seems to work quite well. Hope the events week went well!

without taking the attention off birmingham cu, this is just one case in many. i had a meeting with a member of the SU exec yesterday to organise out reach events in the union, but then got an email ammediately telling us we'd have to cancel everything because we are no longer members of the guild and havent been for many years. i don't think it's all their fault, i know that many in aber cu are of the view that we don't want to be in the guild because it means they take care of our finances and we wouldn't be allowed to only have male presidents.

Unfortunately, these disputes between the Guild and BUECU are nothing new. I was on the BUECU Executive Committee in the early 1960's, and at one stage we were prohibited from meeting on Guild premises, and met instead in St Francis Hall (the University chapel). I feel that the CU invites trouble by not being democratic - this year's "Exec" appoints next year's "Exec". It would do no harm for members to stand for election and be voted on to the Exec - in the same way as Anglican churches elect their Church Wardens and PCC members. God can still work through elected committees!

As a graduate of Birmingham Uni and an ex-member of BUECU, I praise God for His faithfulness to His children on Birmingham Uni campus, in allowing from this persecution an even more prominent position for the marquee base for the mission week. From this opposition may many links be formed, questions be asked, and thus the gospel spread and God glorified. My prayers are with all those in negociations and labouring for the Lord , especially in the coming week.

This is nothing new as an alumni of Aston Uni one of the other Uni's in Brum we had what BUECU is finding since before 1998, when I joined Aston. Sadly I feel that UCCF and CU's are reaping what they have sewn with all the anti SU feeling that can be felt in some quarters. Now we need Christians in Universities up and down the country to stand for Election in SU/Guild elections as Equalities Officers etc so these rules can be challenged in a democratic way.

I heard about this in church this morning - we are studying Nehemiah 4 I would like to know if there is anything I can do to help Birmingham University CU ? I will pray for the right decisions to be made and guidance for the all involved, but is there anything else I/we could do ?
