BBC In The Midlands launch gospel music awards for Midlands.

THE BBC have announced that they are to hold a gospel awards ceremony at the end of this year. The BBC In The Midlands Gospel Music Awards 1993' will be held at the Aston University in Birmingham on 11th December and hopes are afoot to turn them into a national Awards ceremony for 1994, following which they will alternate every year between local and national awards. There will be several categories for the Awards and the BBC are looking for individuals, groups or organisations who are willing to sponsor specific awards.

BBC In The Midlands will broadcast the Awards which they hope will attract both amateur and professional gospel artists. Anybody who is interested in taking part should send tapes to Frank Stewart at BBC Pebble Mill. Six local BBC stations are taking part in the awards ceremony; WM, CWR, Stoke, Derby, Leicester and Nottinghamshire. CR
