Newly found songs have led to Kansas reforming under a new name

THE COMPLEX history of 70s million-sellers Kansas has been brought to light with the release of an album by a band called Proto-Kaw, made up of the personnel of an early line up of the American progressive rock band. After failing to achieve recognition, that line up of the band disbanded in 1973, and Kerry Livgren went on to form the famous Kansas line up. A chance discovery of some old demo tapes many years later brought new interest in the original Proto-Kaw line up. The band got back together under the name Proto-Kaw to record in 2003-4. The album 'Before Become After' includes four songs written back in the 70s plus five brand new songs and features vocalist Lynn Meredith. CR
