Sarah Ann Thorne hymn reborn

A LIVE performance of a hymn written shortly after the 1913 Senghenydd Disaster is set to take place on 14th October. Sarah Ann Thorne of Abertridwr wrote "Prepare To Meet Thy God" in honour of the 440 miners who lost their lives after an explosion in the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd. The hymn was sold on penny sheets with all proceeds going towards a Memorial Plate at St Peters Church. The music was unfortunately lost so composers Dan and Laura Curtis, who composed "A Miner's Song" for the National Mining Memorial earlier this year, have decided to write their own music to Sarah's original words. Dan Curtis said that "it is a great honour for us to be able to write new music for Sarah's beautiful and heartfelt words." CR
