On their debut album Portland-based Above The Golden State showed their knack for creating catchy tunes with uplifting lyrics. They now return with a six song EP. Unfortunately, it rather sounds as if the EP was thrown together just to get something out there. I'm not saying avoid at all costs however, there are moments here which live up to the standards set by their debut album. The catchy guitar hooks are still evident on the upbeat title-track and the EP's closer "Tragedy". The real standout tracks however are where they bring the tempo down. My personal favourite "Chance To Love" shows off the versatility of the band with beautiful melodies, layered vocals and generally more depth to the sound. Lead single "I Am Loved" is also a solid track showing their ability to craft a good pop rock song and has that radio friendly feel to it.
