Can I say right from the outset that if you are looking for an alternative to the slick, well-produced pop rock style of worship that is so popular at the moment then the music of husband and wife team Alberta & Kimberly Rivera could be just what you have been looking for. Hailing from Franklin, Tennessee the Rivera's take what they do extremely seriously indeed with a mission statement that says, "We want to see the church saturated with the atmosphere and sound of Heaven! We believe that this generation is destined to tap into those fresh sounds and release them here on earth. We believe that when Heaven's atmosphere is experienced, we will see the manifest presence of the Lord released in greater power and miraculous demonstration." This 2007 album is a continuous soaking session recorded live at the Vineyard Community Church in Albany, Oregon. It is stripped right back to the basics of piano and vocal and for a large part of the album consists of spontaneous worship, although it does feature "How Great Is Our God". Much of 'Deeper Still' has a beautiful haunting quality very much in the vein of Sinead O'Connor or Eva Cassidy that leads the listener into a peaceful communion with our Heavenly Father and really is music to feed the soul. "So Good" and "Release The Longing" being great examples of this. The track "Going Deeper" takes you to place of quiet contemplation with no distractions and allows you some time and space to be at peace with God. One or two of the songs do occasionally jar as the tempo and passion lifts. But all in all this is 43 minutes of your life you will want to repeat again and again. Beautiful.
