If further proof where needed that the Scottish Christian music scene is a burgeoning and creative one, this collaboration from Glasgow-based worship collective Awaken and Scots emcee MPFree is a case in point. Released as a one track single, Awaken thunder in all drums and guitars blazing to set the backdrop for MPFree to proclaim the wonders of God's redemptive love in a way that is clear and without compromise and, whilst undeniably reminiscent of some of Christian hip hop star Toby Mac's heavier material, the song itself remains distinctive enough to stand out in its own right. Enough light and shade is included to keep things interesting without losing the power of either the song or the message and, with its proposed distribution to prisons across the land, there is no doubt that MPFree and his temporary backing band will bear fruit for the kingdom through this release. To capitalise on what is ultimately a great song, it would be have been interesting to have had a remixed alternative version or two of "Furious Love" to accompany the main track but, as a solitary song, it nonetheless whets the appetite for hopefully more things to come from the two acts.
