Blame Lucy are one of the few currents of fresh air in an overcrowded musical genre. Produced by Rick May, "Gong Show" (inspired by Romans 13) has a welcome depth and vitality that is shamefully lacking in other similar projects, where there is enough originality herein to warrant and maintain interest. Imagine the harmonies by such bands as Galactic Cowboys or the now defunct PFR and you'll have some idea of the vocal arrangements on "Gong Show". Stand out tracks have to be the quirky dynamics of "Innerglow", "Telecast" with its hard rock edge and the laid back funk-tinged groove of "Social Graces". Lyrically, Blame Lucy wrote intelligently about life from a faithful and witty perspective; coupled with solid and consistent musicianship throughout, "Gong Show" proves to be a collection of great compositions ready to be discovered.
