Bournemouth-based Bosh have clocked up an impressive seven recordings since they formed together in '96. Their maturity shows. While younger bands try and impress with naïve bombast, Bosh rely on good songwriting, tight, bright musicianship and arrangements which will out the biblical power of the lyrics. The opener, "Seek Ye First", with a delicious simple-but-catchy guitar riff and Dave Griffiths' throat-tearing vocal is excellent, as too is "Dark Matter" where crunching guitar and interlocking synth make a tight underlay for Dave's assurance that "In Christ we will conquer/Re-take the fallen ground." And there are rather good female vocals from guests Jess Parish and Tess Steed on "Don't Worry". If occasionally the seven songs on this mini-album veer a little too close to blues-rock predictability, the strong lyrics and sense of go-for-it passion never relents. Bosh are clearly the kind of band more concerned in exhorting us to take ground for the Kingdom rather than aping the latest chart band to try and secure a Christian sub-culture following and Christian record label deal. And there lies their ministry power.
