Brother Henry are identical twin brothers David and Ned Henry who you might well have read about in an article on the Cross Rhythms website published after the band's "Your Heart Needs Love" from Brother Henry's previous album 'Lone Survives' received Cross Rhythms airplay. The brothers have been playing music together since their schooldays, and touring since the late 1980s. They are now based in Nashville, although raised in Georgia on classical music. Previous releases have seen their older brother Jeff, along with Park Ellis involved to create more secular style albums, although they only seem to get an acknowledgement on this Brother Henry's first full-on gospel set. Overdubbing and multi-instrumentation with guest musicians has been used to gain a fuller sound than just a duo alone. Their best track on the album is however the simplest. "Gospel Treatise" comprises a repetitive blues plucking riff and Jon Bon Jovi style vocals with a slight touch of bass guitar, piano and violin (or should that be fiddle). With mature Christian lyrics throughout inspired by "theological ruminations" the poetry almost requires Bible study to appreciate the depth of understanding but presented in a simplistic understandable imagery with the twin brotherly vocals blending indistinguishably. Excellent stuff.
