Opening with a track to set your teeth on edge, vocals are delivered with the tonal quality of nails being pulled down a blackboard. Matthew Plunkett has the individual manner of spitting out lyrics in a style that is a cross between a hiss and a screech over what can only be described as brutal deathcore. Cadaverous Contingency are a Tennessee-based outfit who play their music at breakneck speed without too many sections filled with lumbering riffs. Metronomic at times, this music is in no way chaotic and with tracks like "Necrotic State Of Delirium" and "Scabs And Nails" they do at times stray into the slow and sludgy. Lyrics are practically unintelligible, but there is something strangely mesmerising about these eight cuts that come in at just under 20 minutes. There is no doubting the technical drumming skills and rhythmical sensibilities of this duo. I did, however, find that the mix was a bit treble-high for my liking. The bass was all but lost, accentuating the breathy words that are a feature of this recording. The amateurish sound did however add to the effect of the overall package. From the album cover art to the challenging musical style, this is in every way an extreme recording.
