Yorkshire band Carpe Diem have grown considerably over the last couple of years. 'Dotcomculture' sees the band building on their strengths creating melodic pop rock and this time songwriter/guitarist J James sees his songs packaged in a sturdier production sound. My main question about their debut was singer Kev Pease but here he sounds much more confident and is coming into his own, ably supported by Charlotte Amadeao chipping in harmonies. Except, of course, on Charlotte's own song, "Always" which sees the band almost entering worship territory! "Braindead" is a catchy, uptempo opener whilst "Lookin" Round" simply demonstrates the band's ability to make the most of a memorable hook when they write one! "Let It Flow" has plenty of chunky guitar and by the time you get to "Start Over" which includes some atmospheric guitar sounds, that's exactly what I wanted to do, press the repeat play button! Carpediem are doing well on their musical journey and this EP is not yet a killer punch, that's still to come, but the band should be investigated.
