Country was the nearest classification but this is a very rich, mellow, largely acoustic brand, probably better labelled "contemporary USA folk". Carrie first attracted attention as the eyebrow-raising front voice of the superb acoustic trio Stone Soup. Her first solo album 'An Angel At My Shoulder' gained rave reviews and this new one establishes her as a songstress par excellence. Many of her songs convey her Quaker-based Christian view of life with insightful lyrics loaded with compassion and wisdom. "Holy Ground" and "Wisdom Watching" are examples of this and the artist poetically shares truths about God, people, life and spiritual matters throughout the album. "Closer To Home" is a beautifully crafted song and all of her music is a fine example of the singer/songwriter's art. An unusual album, with lovely touches of creativity generously sprinkled throughout.
