Sadly not available in the UK, but something so good we need to shout about it and urge you to take the necessary time and trouble to track it down. The nearest UK version I've heard is The Kings Singers, but having 12 male voices Chanticleer can match the former's technical expertise and take it to regions beyond. Particularly devastating is the bass and countertenor work. This is a collection of spirituals and gospel music, often reproducing an authentic "black" sound, surprising for a bunch of palefaces. "Jesus Come By Here" is a good example; it rumbles, growls and erupts in long established traditional style. The harmony work throughout scales the heights of brilliance, with intense emotional conviction communicating the heart and soul of these lovely old gems. A supreme choral sound, acappella, and more than wonderful. (Ask Doug at DJs for a list of other great Chanticleer recordings.)
