Claude the young - now Claude the 400 year old! was a French Renaissance composer and master of the contrapuntal style and on this recording the new College Choir give us three of his most beautiful settings. The "Magnificat" is interspersed with original verses played by Edward Higginbottom who aiso directs the choir very ably but I was left with a feeling that the obvious familiarity of the New College Choir and Mr Higginbottom with this genre of music has begun to breed contempt. On the whole a rather clinical performance of unarguably high quality has resulted - but I'd rather have feeling than accuracy.
