First the facts for those who fancy a game of CCM Trivial Pursuits. David, Rayborn and Clayborn Huff are brothers and make up this team together with David's son, drummer Lance. David And The Giants record for the family-owned Giant Records. Mind-bogglingly there are no blood ties between David And The Giants and Dann and David Huff, both ex-members of White Heart who now front the tasty 'secular' rock team Giant. If you can unrap your brains from that lot, what can I say about this veteran team of rockers who've made close to a dozen albums, have been popular stalwarts of the American rock gospel scene yet who've never impressed this particular reviewer? Well, I'm happy to report this is their best ever album, a satisfying blend of AOR, southern boogie with (on the fiery opener) a touch of metal. David is an excellent, bluesy singer, the guitar work bites deep and the songs, like the haunting anthemic "Let Go Let God" and the mid tempo Time On My Side" have insistent hooks. The more I play 'Distant Journey' the better it sounds.
