Purveyors of strong powerful rootsy rock’n’roll complete with a touch of blues and lyrics that are firmly centred on Christ, Deep Roots certainly live up to their name! The blisteringly soulful vocals of Angela Conti tumble and swoop out of the speakers and grab the listener by the throat! With the earthy passion of an Ashley Cleveland or Maria McKee she more than holds her own against the scorching fluid guitar work of Brett Valentine (check out the brilliant “Hold On”). From the gritty opening calling card of “Calling Out” through to the closing anthemic “By The Blood Of The Lamb”, Deep Roots keep the beat firmly turned up. Even on the shimmering, sax-soaked, laid back, old fashioned, soul of “Open Your Eyes”, the music cuts to the heart. This is an album demanding attention and if you love rock’n’blues this is an album worth searching out. Phew, what a scorcher!!
