Dick Curless, a true great of country music, died five months after this recording session. As a tribute to a superb artist it would be inconceivable to improve on this wonderful set. Blues country, stone-hard traditional country, gospel, all given the priceless, emotional Curless treatment that wrings the heart out of each song. Try not to be moved by his interpretation of "No-one Will Ever Know" and "Changing Times" for instance, try as you will, he'll get through to you. He seems to have been aware that time was short. Songs of regret are balanced with hopeful gospel songs. "I Am A Pilgrim" and Hank Williams' "When God Comes And Gathers His Jewels" receive attractive, gently rolling and rocking arrangements, and "Since I Met You Jesus" is a one word alteration of the Ivory Joe Hunter evergreen "Since I Met You Baby". The voice was still firm and strong, from a magnificent artist who will be irreplaceable.
