This megastar's success in polished, commercial country music has been built upon her early roots of authentic, smokey mountain, rural music sensibilities. This release is her tribute to the great songs and sounds that can still produce such a depth of emotional response. The allstar lineup features Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Carl Jackson, Randy Scruggs, David Lindley, Jerry Douglas, etc, with a guest appearance from Ireland's Altan. As well as basic gospel fare such as "Wayfaring Stranger" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" (superb harmony vocals!). Many songs are full of Christian awareness and nuggets of gospel truth, "Hold Fast To The Right" for example. Despite her probable image with some readers, Dolly is a fine, sensitive songwriter, with songs like "Brave Little Soldier" and the superb "True Blue" (based on 1 Cor 13's love teaching) in the Nanci Griffith class. Excellent acoustic album.
