If ever there was a time to get excited about British based gospel music, surely it's now. The churches are packed with talent and yet so many gospel fans make the mistake of becoming enthralled with our American cousins whilst failing to support the British scene. Does anybody else get sad about this? So here's an opportunity to get behind some home grown talent! EJ are Esther and Julianne Stapleton; Esther is the song writing talent behind the duo who share vocal duties throughout their debut album. Fine voices combine together with some soulful gospel music in a mainly smooth, laid-back style. No doubting the message on songs like "Covenant", "God Loves You" and "Trust & Believe" which, like the majority of this album, simply illustrates that this duo are totally focussed on getting the message out. A variety of producers contribute musically to bring the songs alive and the girls play to their strength of creating sweet soul sounds. Highlights for me include the gentle groove and Esther s vocal performance on "I Will Always Follow You" and the ballad "Promise" which gives Julianne the opportunity to shine. If you enjoy soulful gospel with a contemporary edge, this has got plenty going for it! Check out this hot new duo.
