With gutsy driving guitar work ensuring “Fly” and “Real Love” leap from the speakers and Haydon Spencely’s dry, sparce vocals are oddly compelling. Only the mid tempo “All I Want Is You” show up Haydon’s vocal limitations but even here the band come up with some tight rhythmic ideas. All in all an excellent five-song debut from a band with considerable musical intelligence and the news that group leader Haydon is wheelchair bound gives the opening line of “Everything” (“I’m still running after you”) considerable poignancy. One to search out.
