The 'Peer Gynt' suites included on this disc were written as incidental music to a play by the Norwegian writer Isben, and as such are miniature sketches and very evocative music. The Slovak Philharmonic pour every ounce of feeling into what amounts to a well rounded and emotional performance well worth investing some hard earned readies in. So far, I think this must be one of the best discs in the series and and well accessible to your average punter - all the 'right notes in necessarily the right order' and no sight of 'Andrew Preview'.
