Finding a place that matches British R&B with strong pop sensibilities, Manchester-based Hannah Atkins delivers one of the best British releases I've heard this year. There's a full on production with some songs sounding like they just dived onto your stereo from TOTP, Hannah's soulful vocals sit perfectly in the mix. She's created an album that stretches from the intimate prayer of "Closer Still" and the worshipful closer "You Are Wonderful To Me" through to the fulsome funkiness of "In My Weakness" and the jazzier tinges of "Dreamer". Lyrically she's managed to create something that would appeal to Christian and unbeliever alike which is quite a feat. Surely it won't be long before a label picks her up, on the strength of this she deserves it.

Hannah Atkins has the most moving atmospheric voice of today. Her album is one of the best this decade. Although you don't get her energy and passion on her cd as you do when she is live, this cd is still a must have!
