A real good front room bash from the far reaches of Birmingham. This low-fi rock 'n' pop cassette certainly doesn't lack commitment, life and pazzaz, but only budget, good production facilities and a new snare drum. Bassist, singist, writist and, I guess, producist, Craig Donovan has certainly got the right idea. In fact, he's got more than one. It will be interesting to see how these develop as he and the band mature in the way that Christians are supposed to. What I saw, you Hardliners, is that though your sound and style is a bit samey at the moment, you've all got the art of playing together, understanding how phrasing and arranging work and possess the essential bonus of having a band that has mastered Play-in-a-day, book 3; still quite rare, that! This 5-song mini-album sounds a bit like a cross between some acetates that Bern Elliott and the Fenmen (who? Ed) once did and the House Martins. A reasonable demo ...shame they're trying to sell it.
