North Carolina's He Is Legend are one of the increasing number of hard music bands who are today bringing out what Cross Rhythms has been expounding for ages - that most of the divisions we have erected between "Christian" and "mainstream" music scenes are illusionary and if artists simply write the music their God-given gift leads them to and record it and play gigs wherever they get the opportunity they can leave the labelling game to religious Pharisees and secular bigots. This is a magnificent hardcore album, swinging as it does from moments of brutal noise to snatches of wistful poignancy while their sense of musical dynamics is exceptional. Really this is a hardcore concept album, taking us on a journey to expose the huge cost to be paid by those searching for fame, wealth and glory in Hollywood. Kerang described it as "a pummelling combination of righteous hardcore and a deluge of classic riffs" that "exposes the sleazy underbelly of the superficial American entertainment capital." I think they've nailed it. He Is Legend recently completed their first UK tour supporting geographical and spiritual brothers Norma Jean. Wish I'd caught one of their gigs.

I did catch their gig, at Nottingham Rock City. Norma Jean played Atreyu off the park, and HIL won a lot of new fans that night. Both bands created a storm and both venged to have their own headline tour in the UK in 2006!
