Now into their 10th year together, Britain's leading country gospel act have a solid fan-base and a reputation as a great live act. It's a shame then, that 'Lead Me On' is not a better album. Although well recorded, professionally played and genuinely sung, only two out of the 11 songs here provoke a real interest. "Can We Begin Again?" is by far the best song on the album. Whereas most of the songs restate Gospel truths in phrases that we've heard many times before, this is a much more personal piece, examining reconciliation and forgiveness in a way that is genuinely moving. Keith Slater's tender vocals are best suited to this type of melody. The closing bluegrass rendition of "Amazing Grace" is the other real gem on 'Lead Me On', bounding along with real energy and enthusiasm. Unfortunately the other nine songs are all just okay, ranging from traditional blues workouts ("He Lives") to several covers of songs that have surely been recorded enough times already ("God Is Good", "Spirit In The Sky").
