His work with the Crabb Family has taken Jason to the upper echelons of Southern gospel success though the singer being recently named Artist Of The Year at the 2012 Dove Awards raised a few eyebrows. This set features Jason singing a batch of classic Southern Gospel songs and old hymns like George Beverly Shea's "I'd Rather Have Jesus", Hank Williams' "I Saw The Light" and a version of Kris Kristofferson's "Why Me" (which unfortunately doesn't compare with Johnny Cash's magisterial interpretation). Produced by the doyen of the genre, Bill Gaither (who also guests on a couple of tracks), this set was recorded live and includes pretty well everything you'd expect from one of the Crabb Family singers. The musicianship is impeccable, the production first-rate, the songs familiar and uplifting and the vocal delivery generally excellent. There's some great guitar and organ work going on in the background and Mr Crabb is joined on vocals by, amongst others, William Lee Holden and the other members of The Crabb Family. If you don't have these tracks on other Homecoming Friends projects, this could be for you.
