Since New Jersey-based John DeGrazio exited the popular Christian folk band Burlap To Cashmere he has released four solo albums on his own Watersound Entertainment imprint. 'Faith Champions' follows in the footsteps of these; again revealing John as a multi-faceted artist. He writes all the lyrics, plays all the instruments, performs vocals, arranges/mixes and produces all the cuts. In a world of hastily churned-out, homogenous-sounding music 'Faith Champions' is a breath of fresh air. The album is a creative blend of accomplished acoustic guitar, soulful/gravelly vocals, complex/meaningful lyrics and skillful production; great care and attention to detail having been taken throughout. "Stay Low" is a rousing, breezy number encouraging us to live above the radar and showing early on that DeGrazio has the knack for a catchy hook and a singalong melody. "Before It's Too Late" is an upbeat pop ballad. "Take Me", a song of surrender, with its heavy riffs and gutsy, gritty vocals highlights DeGrazio's mastery in sonic variation and switching vocal styles. The synth-driven "Faith Champions" with its swirling drum loops is a reminder to stay strong in the trials. Although the mood and tone are often downbeat, 'Faith Champions' is a delightful and enjoyable listen that uplifts and leaves you coming back for more.
