Jonathan is, of course, a much-loved bass baritone singer as well as a hugely entertaining raconteur who, down the years, has built up a big following after his appearances at events like Spring Harvest. On this set the singer again steps away from classical and operatic repertoire to perform a set of songs which, broadly speaking, can be descried as "inspirational". With some clever production and imaginative arrangements, Jonathan's rich tones bring new life to much recorded numbers and from the opening rendition of R Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" through to the closing rendition of Chisholm and Runyan's beloved hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" this is a class act, deftly sidestepping worst excesses of sentimental schmaltz while retaining his ability to make music appealing to both non-classical enthusiasts and non church-goers. Stopping off points on the way include Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and, nine songs later, ends with a barrage of hymnody ("Amazing Grace", "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross", "How Great Is Our God" and others). An album that deserves to be marketed far beyond the narrow confines of Christian bookshops.

Product Description
Jonathan Veira reaches new heights of excellence with his latest album of crossover songs. An inspirational mix of cherished hymns and modern standards for which Jonathan's rich, deep bass-baritone is perfectly matched. Beautiful piano, guitar and lush strings form the basis of arrangements that sit perfectly beneath one of the music's most powerful voices. A simply stunning recording that demonstrates the diversity and spine-tingling delivery of this most gifted artist.

Wonderful and moving, my sister bought this CD for me, and I can't stop playing it. Love the choice of hymns/songs and Jonathan's voice!

I enjoy this recording of Jonathon Veira very much and play it often. I too, find the music he sings inspirational and would like to recommend to family and friends. His singing is beautiful.

I heard this for the first time this weekend and was totally hooked from the beginning. The title 'You raise me up' describes what Jonathan and his singing did for me - lifted me and my heart up in a groundswell of praise to the Lord, set my feet dancing with joy (not something that happens that often!), and left me rejoicing in the incredible God and Friend we have. If you want to be encouraged, inspired, uplifted and spurred on to tell others how good the Lord has been to you, buy the album!
