Kim Hill has of course enjoyed CCM stardom with groundbreaking albums in the '80s though in more recent times the singer with the husky alto voice has been keeping a lower profile, recording some worship projects. This set was co-produced by Kim with Steve Mabee and of the 11 tracks, all but four are written or co-written by the singer herself. With the exception of the last track (the poignant "When Wallflowers Dance") the songs are very much in the worship vein and could be used by a congregation without too much adaptation, particularly "Sing Praises" and "Your Love Is Deep". The arrangements work really well, with a hint of country-ish folk and a good dose of contemporary rock, especially on the first track "Open Wide". A couple of the tracks ("Thank You" and "You Rescue Me") are clearly very personal, but through all the lyrics shine a clear love for Jesus and a real desire to worship him: probably that is most evident in the second track, "When I Remember", a song of heartfelt thanks to the crucified Christ. And throughout that still wonderful and highly distinctive voice lifts the material.
