Long holding to the conviction that Kim's voice is one of the most magnificent in CCM (as far back as CRI I said as much), I viewed her move into secular country last year with distress, particularly as it produced such a patchy album as 'So Far So Good'. Praise God the sister has now come to her senses and has turned in a CCM album of soulful, impassioned brilliance, brimming with quality songs of faith. Some of the plaudits need to go to producer David Kershenbaum who's taken over the production desk and given her sparse accompaniments full of sinuous percussion (Denny Fongheiser, I salute you) and with dobros and dulcimers mixed in fluently with meletrons and micro-organs. Many of the songs selected for Kim are of the highest quality too. What about "Make A Joyful Noise" about the necessity to praise God despite the relentless passage of time. ("David's lion is dust/David's Goliath is dust/David's caves are filled with pirate ghosts/His ancient lust is just dust upon dust/Still we sing because we must/Make a joyful noise/Make a joyful noise to the Lord.") Just as wonderful is the wistful "Only One You". American Christian pop doesn't come any classier and spirit-lifting than this.

Kim's starts off this new cd with an old classic hymn medley, "Nothing but the Blood";nice, great rention!
"Only One You" was the first song that I heard from this cd on ccm radio; just luved it!! It has that great ccm soulful sound. "A Place for Us" is another cd fave of mine. Tommy Funderburk provides bgv's on both of these songs; (his bgv's hi-lited Amy Grant's 1985
"unguarded" album). "No One Like YOU" is quite a
noteworthy song. Great lyrics to "Ruthless Perfection"; great song!! Kim mellows the cd out with 2 last numbers to soothing piano melody. "Slip Away"
is very poignant; just so beautiful to the listening ear.
This has got to be one of Kim top recordings!
GOD Bless! -Don
