Some exciting gospel singing from Kurt Carr and his singers. Being a live album means that we get plenty of interaction with the congregation such as amens, applause and cheers in response to Kurt's timeless requests of "can I get a witness?" As I listened I found myself caught up in the emotion of the event. But this wasn't just emotionalism, despite the final song about "setting the atmosphere", as the rest of the songs were clearly based on Scripture. Okay, I know that in the New Testament we don't have a physical "sanctuary" as the first song suggests, but that's a minor quibble in the context of this rip roaring feast of Bible-based gospel music. There was a good balance between fast pace songs and slower, more gentle songs and heartfelt soul that builds powerfully to crescendo after crescendo. Despite these little quibbles I really enjoyed this solid classic gospel sound.
