Now here's a voice from the past. In the very early days of the charismatic movement, Lenny Smith penned one of THE classic praise songs of the day, "Our God Reigns", and here he is more than a quarter of a century later still leading worship and penning praise songs. Warms the cockles doesn't it? He includes his excellent big hit here amongst material penned over the years and it's all recorded with acoustic, rootsy arrangements. Recorded over a seven year period in a home studio, to be honest some of it sounds dated, probably because it is but then Lenny does know how to write good worship songs even though the low budget production lets him down and gets in the way. Standouts? Ultimately I really like "Beneath The Shelter Of Your Wings" and also the title track. Helpfully Lenny includes all the chords in the CD booklet so that worshippers can play along. Unnervingly he looks just like Joe Cocker on the album sleeve. Hmmmmm..
