It was clearly a storming gig. What could have been a logistical nightmare and a musical mess turns out to be a tremendous celebration of both the talent-in-depth represented in the Rev Bazil Meade’s aggregations and the flexibility of a choir able to sound soulful and convincing yet blend with the disparate musical styles of a Martin Smith and a Carleen Anderson. The songs have been carefully chosen too and who’d have thought that the choir could have blended in so well behind Matt Redman. The standout for me though is Sam Moore and LCGC bringing soul power to the ancient “In The Garden”. I suspect it’s been a long time since the Sam & Dave man re-connected with his gospel roots but the effect here is spine-tingling.
