Considering the average age of this band is 17, except for lead singer Scott Nicol, M!D’s debut album shows a surprising depth of musical and spiritual maturity.  The promo material describes M!D as “electric rock with a Celtic flavour” and their sound portrays and enthusiastic boldness about their commitment to Christ and their mission to reach their peer groups.  “Not Been A Bad Day After All” showcases Scott’s earthy voice, Naomi Balance’s lilting backing vocals and the band’s overall energy.  The quieter “Outside These Walls” show the anointing of Scott’s songwriting skills with chillingly realistic lines like “In my suburban lifestyle, my cosy comfort zone/Do I dare to lift my hand to help someone not my own?”  Bassist John Paul Porrelli and keyboardist Daniel Robinson have obviously been encouraged to start writing their own material with the inclusion of “You’re Defeated” and “Come Home” respectively.  In production terms, ‘Fresh Evidence’ is a bit rough in places and has the feel of a first album but this rather adds to the charm.  If you like a bit of Bruce and a touch of The Clash, then check out M!D.  They could be the Delirious? of tomorrow so watch this space!

It's a shame this band had to split - such promise and such good ministry focused music. I personally was inspired by some of thier music in the early MID days. Tremendous musicians and good songwriting. I still have this album and although it stays hidden away for the best part of the year - every so often I fish it out and get blessed every time! If you were a fan check out www.myspace.com/daan30 for Daniel Robinsons work.
