Nicole's second attempt at igniting a Christian music career succeeded back in 2000 when her ballad "Redeemer" took America by storm. African American Nicole managed to avoid being pigeon holed as an R&B artist by mixing her material with a strong pop element. Her live show is high energy as she sings and dances her way through the set. The live setting doesn't add a huge amount to her songs and although the live band are tight, it feels like they are standing 10 yards behind Nicole in the mix rather than this being a sweaty band strutting their stuff. However, I am sure that the beautiful and highly personable Mullens comes over very well on the DVD. She shares some of her memories from Cincinnati and stories behind songs. She has a strong message of racial integration with songs like "Black White Tan" (accompanied by her daughter), "Color" and "Homemade". All the popular songs from her first two albums are here and it's all fine and dandy but still feels a bit like a release-schedule filler while we await the next studio project.
