The fiery opening track shows that this outfit have totally mastered the techniques and trickery of black gospel. "We've Come To Praise Him" swoops and hollers like nobody's business. The next song, "My Soul Doth Magnify The Lord", is stunning in its sharp dynamics and musical humour. Then it's into the more familiar funky stuff, honkin' horn section, thumping rhythm et al. The choir bring some smart twists and turns to the music, refreshing creativity, built onto a solidly traditional bg basis. Interest never falters for a second, contrariwise, this live recording builds in intensity and fervour. One of the best of its kind.
