Phil is a singer/songwriter from Wales. He certainly has a gift to write a melodic song and the combination of lyric and melody makes some of them quite catchy. Phil brings a mix of a wide range of influences, and if he doesn't then the sounds he evokes cover a wide range of well known artists. There is a bit of Beautiful South, Simon & Garfunkel, Brian Eno and others, so quite a range of sounds. Not all the production values here are of the highest quality but as on most of Phil's releases down the years, the songsmith overcomes limitations of budget by sheer creative force of will. 'Ripples From A Small Pond' is worth listening to a few times over to allow it to grow on you and appreciate the harmonies and ponder on his often thought provoking lyrics.
