What struck me most about this confident first album from this Michigan-based singer and worship leader was the quality of her voice - powerful when it needs to be but able to be subtle as well. The title track sets a strong tone and important theme that carries through the album as her sincerity and love of God shines through. "I Am His" quietens it down with a calming opening that builds up as it reaches the high points. "Arms Of Love" also starts quietly with a piano-backed reflection on our brokenness and builds to a strong declaration of confidence in God. Acoustic guitar and muted percussion play effectively off each other on "A Conversation With My Father". "People Get Ready" is neither the Curtis Mayfield nor Crystal Lewis song but is an infectious uptempo number reminiscent of Mumford & Sons while "Amazing" is a quiet meditation on how God loves us despite knowing our faults. But the standout track has to be "Peace Of God", with its relaxing worshipful chorus and shades of Taizé. The simple piano provides the perfect backing for this one. Play it in a quiet, darkened room and feel that presence and peace!
