Renowned for his fingerboard fireworks with the Christian metal pioneers Whitecross, Rex Carroll has been involved in a range of other projects including this release that was originally issued under the name 'Ouch!' in 1996. Now remastered and digitally edited, it is remarkable how fresh this recording sounds. Although there are no blistering solos, the album is full of classy groove metal that reveals Carrol's versatility on the guitar. A distinctive bass rumble drives through the tracks which when coupled with Tim Bushong's (ex-Lovewar) vocals is reminiscent of King's X. At times the fullness of sound of the recording is a little thin, but the standout tracks occur towards the end of the album where some polished layered harmonies add a velvety feel and depth to the music. "Too Late (Time Has Come)" builds to a funky chorus and leads into "Stay The Same" where both Carroll and Bushong are on top form. This is certainly an entertaining listen and the added sleeve notes add extra interest for Rex Carroll fans.
